Italy step up security at the Embassy of the United States and Pakistan as well as locations around the Vatican, amid fears the emergence of revenge attacks following the death of Osama bin Laden, according to Ansa news agency on Wednesday (04/05/2011).
"The death of the leader of Al Qaeda in the hands of U.S. operations that could provoke retaliation,"according to Defense Department documents, asking for increasing the vigilance around religious sites, including the Vatican, to the maximum level, according to Ansa.
"general prevention activities, such as increased security and vigilance, improved to the highest stage, with attention devoted to the targets considered sensitive,"according to the document.
Targets that include a number of embassies, especially the United States and Pakistan, international organizations, religious sites, train stations and airports.
Italy is the location of thousands of places sensitive military and was stationed at several locations, among others, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Police also increased vigilance in the Italian military base, including the United States and NATO.
